Marathon Running

A passion for distance running and the Boston Marathon

Shiloh Schulte's passion for running was as profound as his dedication to wildlife. He embraced distance running in his 30s and quickly became a fixture in the Maine running community, especially known for his repeated successes at the Boston Marathon. Shiloh ran the Boston Marathon 9 times from 2015 through 2025 (including one virtual race), often achieving impressive times and representing Maine proudly. He was an avid marathoner – described by friends as having a "metronomic" gait – and even served as a running club member and community organizer for local races.

Boston Marathon Performances

Shiloh's favorite race was the Boston Marathon, which he completed 9 times from 2016 to 2025. His 2019 performance stands out with a personal best time of 2:36:28, finishing 237th overall and as a top Maine finisher. Throughout his Boston Marathon career, he consistently finished under 3 hours in most races, demonstrating remarkable endurance and dedication, even returning strong in 2023 after recovering from injury.

Community and Legacy in Running

Shiloh was deeply loved in the running community for his enthusiasm and camaraderie. He was a longtime member of the Dirigo Running Club, one of Maine's premier clubs. Friends described him as someone who "always had a smile on his face" during hard workouts, and as a fierce competitor who ran a 2:39 marathon even in his 40s.

After his passing in 2025, the Dirigo Club hosted a memorial "Dirigo 5K" on June 27 to honor Shiloh and another member. Dozens of runners participated, and the club publicly thanked all who came to celebrate his life. The outpouring of love showed how much Shiloh meant to the Maine running world.

"He treated marathon training like fieldwork — meticulous, methodical, joyful.
He always showed up."
